On Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, the Tree House Child and Family Center (Tree House) and Kunes Auto & RV Group (Kunes) will honor the memory of longtime advocate and former Board President Margaret Downing with A Night of Intrigue: a unique masquerade experience featuring music, food, fun, and friends.
Proceeds from A Night of Intrigue will benefit the mission of the Tree House to promote safe, strong, and healthy environments for children and families through equitable access to child abuse prevention, education, and resource support.
As president of the Board of Directors for many years, Downing’s work on behalf of the Tree House was successfully realized on April 15, 2013, when it first opened its doors as a stand-alone facility. Following her sudden passing in 2019, the Tree House Board of Directors unanimously voted to name the building in Downing’s honor. Due to pandemic gathering restrictions, a naming ceremony held in the fall of 2020 was limited to Downing’s immediate family and the Tree House board.
Today, the Tree House Child and Family Center is a safe and comfortable facility where professional services come together to discuss abuse with children and families in a non-threatening, compassionate environment. Everything at the Tree House is child-centered. The Tree House itself looks like a home because it was designed to create a sense of safety and security for children and their families.
Through awareness, education, prevention, and established relationships with community partners—such as law enforcement, medical professionals, mental health professionals, educators, the district attorney's office, corporation counsel, child protective services, and more—the Tree House provides programs and services to stop child maltreatment before it starts.
